{"id":3666,"date":"2015-10-28T09:43:49","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T16:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/?p=3666"},"modified":"2016-02-21T15:45:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T22:45:20","slug":"secret-plot-uncovered-to-hijack-pacificas-broadcast-licenses-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/?p=3666","title":{"rendered":"Secret Plot Revealed to Hijack Pacifica&#8217;s Broadcast Licenses &#038; Assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Documents registered with the California <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/kepler.sos.ca.gov\/\">Secretary of State<\/a> for a private \u201cfoundation\u201d called the \u201cKPFA Foundation<em>\u201d<\/em> seem to be part of a conspiracy by \u201cSaveKPFA\u201d <em>insiders<\/em> to gain total control of KPFA (under the guise of protecting KPFA) and to \u201ccapture\u201d its license in the event of Pacifica\u2019s dissolution. Further, it appears to be an attempt to privatize the Pacifica Foundation for the benefit of a few instead of the many. These documents were recently uncovered by Pacifica&#8217;s National Board (PNB) Secretary<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/?p=3014\"> Janet Kobren<\/a>, a United for Community Radio (UCR) candidate and whistleblower.<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/KPFA_Foundation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3669\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/KPFA_Foundation-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"KPFA_Foundation\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/KPFA_Foundation-300x230.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/KPFA_Foundation.jpg 362w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here\u2019s what was revealed:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> In September 2013, PNB director, former PNB chair\/interim Executive Director (iED) Margy Wilkinson registered the above named shadow corporation with the California Secretary of State at the address of Siegel &amp; Yee, the law firm of former PNB director and current Pacifica legal counsel Dan Siegel. They kept this information hidden from the KPFA listeners, the Local Station Board (LSB) and the Pacifica National Board (PNB) until its discovery only recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition to usurping Pacifica&#8217;s trademarked &#8220;KPFA&#8221; call letters, this shadow corporation also adopted Pacifica\u2019s Articles of Incorporation that includes its Mission Statement. <strong>When asked to explain, Siegel and Wilkinson admitted that they created this shadow corporation to acquire the licenses and assets of Pacifica<\/strong> (estimated to be worth more than $100 million) in case Pacifica went bankrupt and\/or was taken over by creditors or the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The establishment of this covert \u201cKPFA Foundation\u201d raises the question of whether some of the decisions Wilkinson made when overseeing Pacifica&#8217;s finances during her tenure as interim ED contributed to the current disastrous financial state of the Pacifica Foundation and its stations. What might be considered gross ineptitude was so systematic that it appears to be an intentional attempt to bankrupt Pacifica and its stations, in order to gain control of KPFA from Pacifica via the \u201cKPFA Foundation\u201d \u00a0<strong>At the very least, this constitutes a severe conflict of interest and ethical violation by Wilkinson and Siegel.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How does this relate to the KPFA Local Station Board election? <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3749\" style=\"width: 333px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3749\" class=\" wp-image-3749\" src=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Your Vote Matters (photo credit below)\" width=\"323\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters-756x500.jpg 756w, http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters-500x332.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.unitedforcommunityradio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Your-vote-matters.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Your Vote Matters (photo credit below)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a KPFA member, your vote will elect members to the KPFA LSB. This board not only sets policy for KPFA, it also selects four of its members to sit on Pacifica\u2019s National Board. Right now, the Siegel-Wilkinson \u201cSave KPFA\u201d faction has a majority of KPFA\u2019s seats on this board. This election can overturn the \u201cSave KPFA\u201d majority of seats on the board and enable the new local and national boards to block their plan to hijack Pacifica&#8217;s licenses. \u201cSave KPFA&#8217;s\u201d Brian Edwards-Tiekert\u2019s recent motion to get the KPFA LSB to overstep its powers and ratify the creation of thesecret \u201cKPFA Foundation\u201d was stopped by UCR LSB members.
